Born and raised in London, U.K., Riana Husted moved to Charleston in 2008 and has lived here since. She graduated from the College of Charleston with a degree in Political Science before obtaining her Juris Doctor at the Charleston School of Law, where she served as a member of the Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity and South Carolina Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers Association Student Division.
Ms. Husted began pursuing her passion for criminal defense as a law clerk at the Charleston County Public Defender's Office, gaining insight and experience within the local court system. During her final year of law school, she clerked at a private criminal defense practice in Charleston, assisting attorneys with state and federal criminal defense litigation.
Ms. Husted started her practice as a public defender in Beaufort County, representing indigent clients in General Sessions Court on charges ranging from misdemeanors to serious felonies. She subsequently entered private practice in Charleston, defending individuals charged in Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester, Colleton, Beaufort, Jasper, and across the Lowcountry.
Attorney Husted takes a personal approach to her cases and enjoys working closely with clients to achieve the best results for each individual. She believes in the importance of discussing goals in the case moving forward, explaining and brainstorming various legal strategies, and keeping her clients informed at each step of the process.
Ms. Husted is skilled at researching narrow and complex legal issues and litigating motions in court. She is particularly passionate about protecting against the abuse of individuals' 4th Amendment rights, such as unlawful searches and seizures during traffic stops.
